Presidency: Buhari will run Open Government
Femi Adesina, President Muhammadu Buhari’s special
adviser, has revealed that his boss will not ask any
newsmen to “kill” stories for him.
The presidential aide said instead of doing that, the
government will rather encourage journalists to write stories
that will critically study the workings of the administration
and provide it with the way forward.
Adesina said this at a dinner held for him and other
presidential spokespersons by online publishers.
Also hosted by the publishers were Garba Shehu, the
presidential media aide and Laolu Akande, the vice
presidential assistant on media.
Adesina said the first thing Buhari told him when he took
office was: “ Always tell me the truth.”
He added: “The President told me: ‘Please do not fail to
argue with me.’”
The presidential media aide said Buhari has promised to
lead an open and transparent government so much that he
would have nothing to hide and would have no cause to
want to ask for any story to be “killed”.
Adesina noted that the only thing he asked is that for any
news item, the presidency should be given the opportunity
to state its side before being put in the public domain.
He said: “There is a saying that one bad coin can spoil
hundreds of other coins.
“My advice is that you should not allow any of your
members to use the platform to malign innocent people.

on Monday, August 16. The president of the court, Joseph
Ogunsemi noted that the union had collapsed beyond
reconciliation.
The couple already had two children; Toyin and Dupe who
were 27 and 24 years respectively.
The 62 year old PDP chief had dragged his 52 year old wife
to court claiming that she was aggressive and unpredictable.
Faleye said: “I don’t love the respondent anymore, I only
appreciate my children and I don’t see any resolution in the
union.”

was not challenged because his wife refused to come to
court to provide contrary evidence.

Ebonyi Youths vandalize electricity compay
vehicles over seven-month power outage
Youths in Afikpo town of Afikpo North Local Government
Area of Ebonyi State during a protest, have allegedly
vandalized three vehicles belonging to the Enugu Electricity
Distribution Company (EEDC) and barricaded the entry and
exit points into the town.
Public institutions including banks and markets were also
shut down following the protest, which halted human and
automobile movements in the area.
Reports say the youths were protesting alleged lack of
supply of electricity to the town for over seven months.
The Rector, Akanu Ibiam, Federal Poly, Uwanna, Ogbonnia
Ibe-Enwo, Senator Azu Agboti, other prominent persons in
the town including travelers, were turned back from
reaching their destinations by the rampaging youth who
chanted war songs during the protest.
The state Police Spokesperson, Chris Anyanwu, who
confirmed the incident, condemned the vandalism by the
youth.
One Egwu Idam, a resident of the area according to reports,
revealed that the youth had surrounded the office of the
distribution company as early as 7 am today and dismissed
the staff.
He said in the process, three vehicles of the company were
destroyed.
Speaking further, Idam said, “We haven’t had light for over
seven months and we have been paying for light we don’t
consume. We have been telling the power people to stop
bringing us bill every month since they don’t give us light but
to no avail.”
One of the protesters said, “Today, we have decided to say
no to all these rubbish. We want the right thing to be done
now. It is either they give us light or they stop bringing bill to
us because we cannot continue to pay for what we don’t
consume.”
Mr. Anyanwu, a deputy superintendent of police, said the
Afikpo Police Area Commander and his team have been
directed to calm the situation.
